Having a mole in your yard can create a great deal of havoc not only with your yard but with your patience. One of the first things most people do to try and get rid of the mole is by using various mole repellents which may not be the best thing for your yard. Did you know that moles have a keen sense of vibrations? Movement that occurs above ground can be felt by the mole even when they are within their lower tunnels beneath the grass; the vibrations only scare the mole temporarily. This is why repellents were created but unfortunately, these don't work very well.
One type of repellent is not a toxin but the use of electronic vibrations. This only works very temporarily because it will scare the mole and make it move away but its home is in YOUR yard, so it will be back after the vibrations stop. There are several electronic devices on the market today which state that they can cover 1/4 or 1/5 of an acre. If your yard is half an acre, you will have to invest in quite a bit more than just one unit. In addition, these devices called "mole chasers" must be consistently used for a continuous vibration so you have to make sure that the unit is on 24/7 and even though the directions state the mole should be gone in one to two weeks, how do you really know until a day or two after you've shut the device off? By the way, does the term "mole chasers" mean that they only chase the mole or actually catch it?
A study of the electronic vibrations devices was done by Purdue University and stated that "There are many ultrasonic and other vibration-producing devices in the market place and sold through various magazines that claim to repel moles, voles, gophers, and other mammals from yard and garden areas. All such devices have absolutely no value in controlling pests (including insect pests)".
With this said, do you really want to spend the money on something that only temporarily removes the mole from your yard? You can have a pest control company attempt to remove the mole and they will generally use toxins as the mole deterrent but this is only harming your lawn and killing the good insects that take care of it. In addition, once you water, the toxins are washed away and harming the whole eco system altogether. You may have heard of Castrol oil being used but this is also ineffective as, again, it can be easily washed away when you water your lawn.
By adding toxins to your yard, you are only adding additional problems to your current problem which is what you certainly don't want to do. Not only are you killing your lawn but you may be harming other family members or animals that will enter your yard. In addition, since you have to wash of the grass you are wasting water and then diluting any chemicals that may still exist and therefore wasting more of your time and money.
You can try to use toxic or electronic vibration mole repellents in the attempts to keep your yard yours but it is highly likely that you will only be wasting your money.
